Obituary of Eleanor Louise Mackie

Eleanor Louise (Bakke) Mackie Eleanor Louise (Bakke) Mackie, 80 years on July 5th, died peacefully at home August 1st from cancer and mid-stage Alzheimer’s. A life-time Portlander, she was born in St. Johns to Thorvald (TM) and Dorothy Bakke. Eleanor graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952 and attended University of Oregon where she joined the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She married Alexander Mackie in 1956 and they had 2 girls, Leslie Mackie of Vashon Island, WA and Allison Mackie Kehoe of Portland. Eleanor enjoyed being a small business owner, a travel agent, executive assistant, volunteer and a loving mother. She was an active member of her High School Myphidias Club clear into her 70’s. Travel was a big part of her life with Hawaii, San Francisco, Reno, Texas, Norway and Egypt being a few highlights. She enjoyed celebrating her Norwegian heritage by baking traditional treats every holiday season. When her children were little she was a fabulous seamstress making their clothes, Christmas outfits and Halloween costumes. Eleanor always made life fun for her family. Whether it was the many car trips to San Francisco or Mt. Hood. She always brought her sense of adventure and taught her children to love exploring new places and new things. She was a welcome addition to any gathering and was deeply loved by her family and many friends. Alzheimer’s curtailed her activities these last 4 years, but it never stopped her beautiful smile, her bright blue eyes and dry sense of humor. She will be missed by many. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Son-in-law, Martin Kehoe, 4 granddaughters - Olivia Mackie of Vashon Is., WA, Katie, Shannon and Tess Kehoe of Portland and brother, Bill Bakke. A Memorial Service is scheduled for August 14th, 1:00 pm at Wilhelm’s Portland Memorial, 6705 SE 14th Ave, Portland, 97202 in Sellwood. Service Information
