Obituary of Martin Paul Stauss
Martin P. Stauss
November 10, 1917 – August 10, 2014
Martin Paul Stauss was born in Balta, North Dakota, and served in the Civil Conservation Corp during the 1930s. He served in the US Army from 1940 to 1945 during WWII until he was wounded in France.
For his bravery and actions during his service, he was awarded the coveted Purple Heart. When he was healed enough to return to the United States, he married Katherine Malsam in Hillsview, South Dakota in 1945.
In 1950 they moved their growing family to Aberdeen, South Dakota where he worked in the grain elevator and drove a semi- truck. In 1963, Martin moved with his wife and seven children to Milwaukie, Oregon.
At that time he started working for the General Services Administration until he retired. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, as well as traveling to Hawaii, Europe, Alaska and Mexico.
Katherine passed away in 2004 and while Martin slowed down, for the next 10 years he continued to make many new friends.
He is survived by his seven children, Annette, Vern (Joann), Arnie (Sara), Frank (Pat), Ray (Char), Luella (Dan), Jerry (Michele) as well as 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Martin’s service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Milwaukie. Rosary is at 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 11.
