Virginia Lubersky

Obituary of Virginia McGreer Lubersky

Virginia McGreer Lubersky was born into a family of Oregon pioneers in Fossil, Oregon April 28, 1917. She had 3 dear siblings, a brother and two sisters, with whom she remained close through their lives. She loved animals and at age 7 rode bareback across the painted hills from Clarno to Mitchell. The close knit family moved to Prineville, where her mother, Edith Clarno Mcgreer, ran a boarding house and restaurant in the 1920s They later moved to Portland where she went to Grant High school. She was a quietly brave, resourceful, person; at a picnic at Champoeg Park during high school, she saved her best friend from drowning in the Willamette. She went to Oregon State College in secretarial science, although during the shortage of male workers in World War II she briefly acted as chief of subcontracting for General Electric while living in New York. She returned to Oregon in the 1950s working as an office manager. She married, Bill, the love of her life, and spent many happy years together. She volunteered at loaves and fishes for many years, and, with her friends, helped with bake sales for the Wilsonville library when it was but a single room cottage. The family helped in the development of Meridian Park Hospital, and St Francis of Assisi Church. She loved to play cards, especially bridge, loved to travel, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, churchgoer, and friend to all who knew her. She was a humble but very cheerful soul, who downplayed her own talents and accomplishments, always thought, and saw, the best in others, had a truly open heart, and everyone she met described her as a sweetheart. She died, peacefully, after a brief illness following a hip fracture. She will be sorely missed by her friends and family who survive her: son William, granddaughter Gina, and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Her bright spirit will live on in all those who knew her. Remebrances might be directed to St Francis of Assisi Church in Wilsonville or to Hopewell House. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at a later date. Service Information
