Ann was born in New York City to Irish Immigrants, James and Helen Barry. She had two brothers, John and Mike. Ann was in the Navy during World War II. She met her future husband, Bob, while he was on leave attending officer’s training school in New York for the Navy. They were married on April 12th 1947 and soon moved to Portland. Ann and Bob had six children, Kevin, Bharti, Barry, Brian, Maureen and Annmarie. Ann is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Erin, Brianne, Alexis, Eric and Iain and 5 great grandchildren, Isabella, Angelica, Finn, Kaili and Lola. Others who were proud to call her Grandma were Justin and Jason Morris, Sarah Lamborn and Jason Robinson.
Ann was always active in the community, church, school and social activities, many times taking a leading role. When Bob became stricken with Parkinson’s disease the two of them founded Willcope the first major support group and foundation for Parkinson’s patients and their families. Ann and Bob traveled through Washington and Oregon setting up local chapters and leading by example. Ann was the main caregiver for Bob as the disease progressed.
Ann’s love and devotion to family was paramount in her life. Her last years were spent at home with family where she received loving care while maintaining her independence.
Ann was a force of nature and will be missed by all.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Agatha’s Catholic Church at 11:00 AM September 27th. Always remember, Ann loved a good party, so a celebration of her life will be held at the Milwaukie Elks Club following the mass. Please join us.
