Obituary of Gerald G. Minor

The lovable, funny Jerry Minor, born May 28, 1929, passed away peacefully of natural causes Saturday, July 31, 2021. Jerry was born to Wade and Mazy Minor in Olean, Missouri. At the age of 7, his family relocated to Oregon where he attended Grout Grade School in S.E. Portland and was in the Class of 1948 at Benson High School. Shortly after high school, Jerry married Beverly. They were married for 27 years and welcomed three children; Larry, Pamela and Richard. Jerry served as an MIP in the US Army from 1951 until 1953. After his military service, Jerry worked at Fulton Provision for 13 years. He built his family a home in the David Douglas School District where they lived for several years. In 1965, as an established and proud butcher, Jerry partnered with Jack Gartner to be the co-owner of Gartner's Country Meat Market in N.E. Portland. Jerry later married Bertie in 1980. They remained married for 38 years until Bertie passed away on November 4, 2018. Since 1981, they were long-time residents of the Interlachen Community on Fairview Lake in another home Jerry built himself. Jerry was very charismatic and loved by all. He had a corny joke and a nickname for everyone he met. He enjoyed camping, road trips, water skiing, and boating. He was an avid blackjack player who enjoyed participating in tournaments at the local casinos and the occasional trip to Reno. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Pamela Thomas; his son, Richard; his brother, Lavere; stepdaughters, Wanda Wolters and Bonnie Finocchiaro; seven grandchildren, Paige Barton, Amy Thomas, Sam Minor, Carly Minor, Lauren Martin, Edo Wolters, and Stacy Decker; and seven great-grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie; and his son, Larry. Per Jerry's wishes, there will be a private viewing and no service. Jerry will be entombed at Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Mausoleum in Sellwood.
