Obituary of Laurence Alan Mosler

Laurence Alan Mosler died comfortably at home June 28, 2021 at the age of 79, after living with Multiple Myeloma for almost ten years. Born March 28, 1942 in Seattle, WA to Nathan and Elizabeth (Warnick) Mosler, Laurence attended McGilvra Elementary School, Meany Middle School and Garfield High School where he formed many important friendships that have spanned a lifetime. Laurence graduated from the University of Washington and University of Washington Law School. He began practicing law after his schooling, first with the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, then joining the law practice of his uncle George Mosler. Eventually, he and a small group started their own firm. The various attorneys he practiced with over the years have served as dear friends and valuable counsel. Laurence was known to be a highly ethical, thoughtful and intelligent attorney. He was a diligent steward for all his clients no matter the size of issue. Laurence loved his family deeply. He set an example for his two daughters of kindness, love, patience, understanding, humor, generosity (and dance moves!) that were central to the women they became. While he and Susan did not sustain their marriage, they together agreed to transcend their differences and maintain a lifelong friendship that helped define the close-knit, family they are today. Sports played a central role in Laurence's life. From his years playing the high post for the Garfield Bulldogs and briefly for the University of Washington, to his adult years playing in his men's and senior's groups (where he competed in national tournaments), basketball and the friends he played with were one of his greatest enjoyments. When his knees no longer allowed him to play, he transitioned to golf. He loved playing, watching and discussing golf with friends and family.. No conversation about Laurence would be complete without mentioning his love-hate relationship with the Seattle Mariners. He held season-tickets for years. So many of us enjoyed games sitting alongside him cheering or shaking our heads. Once he stopped attending games, watching games on television became a highly anticipated activity of his day (next to watching "Columbo" and "Andy Griffith" reruns and "Let's Make a Deal" and "America Says".) The past twenty years of his life may have brought him the most joy, as it includes his relationships with his grandsons Sam and Max Matterazzo and Ben Robinett. Attending their sporting events and music recitals, breakfasts at The Original Pancake House, Sunday dinners in Snohomish, Dick's burgers in front of the television, playing cards, listening to classic rock and the Bee Gees, talking about nature and space, and watching "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Seinfeld" were just some of the activities they enjoyed together. His influence on their lives and his deep love for them cannot be overstated. Laurence is survived by his three grandsons Sam Matterazzo, Benjamin Robinett and Max Matterazzo; his daughter and son-in-law Melissa and John Matterazzo of Portland, OR ; daughter (predeceased) Lesley Robinett and son-in-law David Robinett of Snohomish, WA; his former wife Susan (Popick) Mosler of Portland, OR; brother and sister-n-law David and Sharon Mosler of Adelaide, South Australia; sister (predeceased) Judith Hennes; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Larry Veltman of Portland, OR. Additionally Laurence is survived by a large group of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and their families who thoroughly enjoyed his humor and whom he loved very much and talked about often. His family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, caregivers and hospice professionals that assisted them throughout these last ten years. The expertise and support of Dr. Sheldon Goldberg in Seattle and Dr. Jeff Menashe in Portland helped Laurence exceed the life expectancy for his disease.
