Obituary of Louis George Geannopoulos

Louis George Geannopoulos was caught in an avalanche while skiing at Whistler Blackcomb on Feb. 12, 2021. He was 32 years old. Louis lived a life full of joy as a Horticultural specialist in the Vancouver, BC area. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2015 with a degree in Psychology, with an interest in neuro-psycho-pharmacology, ethno-botany, and horticulture. He fell in love with greenhouses during a work-study at UBC’s Horticulture Greenhouse. As a head grower and facility manager at various large greenhouses across Delta, B.C. and Washington, he directed and oversaw the construction and operation of state-of-the-art glass greenhouses. He was the Vice President of Horticulture at Rossi Advisory Group and was excited about being a leader in the cannabis industry. He had just registered a new business, Seed to Sky Solutions, based on his love for the Sea to Sky region. Louis grew up in Portland, Oregon and graduated from Westview High School in 2007. He was on the track team, dive team, played the trombone in marching band, and was on the local rugby team. He loved music, played guitar and liked to jam with his friends. Growing up he was very involved with the Boy Scouts. As part of Troup 728, he developed life skills that shaped his generous spirit and desire to help others. He was an Eagle Scout and Troup Leader who enjoyed many great trips and friendships through shared adventure. An outdoor enthusiast, Louis was a skilled rock climber, skier, snowboarder, kayaker, mountain biker, and longboarder. He loved being in nature, and hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2008. He owned a sailboat and enjoyed taking it out to the San Juan islands and. around the Howe Sound. He loved spending time with his many cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents in Chicago, Illinois and being at the family cabin in Pembine, Wisconsin. He was proud of his Greek heritage and had a tattoo of the Greek alphabet on his arm. He loved his beautiful long hair. Louis cultivated life everywhere he went literally and figuratively. He had rich and loving relationships with friends and partners that he cherished dearly. He liked to bring people together. If you ever attended one of his gatherings you know he loved cooking too much food, smoking meats, grilling veggies, and sharing laughs. Louis was a loving brother and son. He is survived by his parents, George and Geni Geannopoulos, two loving sisters, Lauren and Anna (her husband Alejandro), and many extended family and friends. In the words of his life-long friend Stew: Louis embraced life. He lived with a confidence in himself that inspired, he threw himself into everything he did whole-heartedly. He wasn't afraid to take on tasks he wasn't prepared for and had a knack for figuring it out as he went. He lived with an automatic generosity that is so rare in this world; when someone needed a hand he was helping out before they even asked and he did so without question or thought of reward. He thought deeply about things, getting caught up in discussions, exploring all sides and debating with passion. He felt deeply: joy, sadness, frustration, love; all came through him with intensity. Laughter burst out of him, and his unique cackle was such that none who knew him will ever forget it. He was handsome, with glorious flowing hair and a smile that spread beyond his face. A card-carrying weirdo who marched to his own beat, he walked the road less travelled. He was a gifted cook and horticulturist who put care and passion into everything he did. I think perhaps most of all he lived for adventure. When a storm hit in the back-country or he got lost on a journey: that was when he lit up most. He loved to explore and overcome, to drive through the difficulty and come out on the other side discovering new beauty and possibility. Louis never gave up, and he didn't question himself. He trusted his internal guidance and pursued his dreams and aspirations. He spread himself wide, touching countless lives and always leaving a trail of activation behind him. He made us all live more fully, love more fiercely, and think more deeply than we ever would have without him. Louis believed in the power of food. He liked to grow vegetables and planted gardens everywhere he went. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Oregon Food Bank.
