Obituary of George Brakel Jr.

George David Brakel Jr. was born Feb. 6, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo., to parents George David and Pearl Elizbeth (Rubey) Brakel. George was brother to Robert. His family moved to Oregon where he went to grade school and graduated from Madison high school. He then attended Lewis & Clark College in Portland. George met Patricia in 1983.The two met while both working for Portland Public Schools. They exchanged wedding vows in Portland Sept. 21,1984. George’s lifelong occupation was as Head Maintenance Supervisor for Portland Public Schools. George will be remembered as a person with a great passion for all things life. He loved fishing, cooking, gardening, travel, writing, and the arts. George was an artist himself and he would express his own life moments with his drawings and paintings. Seven words comprise George’s favorite mantra: LIFE, LOVE, SPIRIT, SOUL, MIND, TRUTH, PRINCIPLE. George was predeceased by his parents, George David and Pearl Elizabeth Brakel. George is survived by his wife, Patricia; brother, Robert; daughters, Jean (Bob) and Jacqueline (David); son, David (Laura); grandchildren, Ashley (Dan), Grant, Valerie, and Case; and great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Braden, Giovanni, and Garland “Tre.” George will be privately entombed in Wilhelm’s Portland Memorial Mausoleum.
