Obituary of Doris Herring

Doris passed away in the early morning of September 9, 2020. Doris was born August 30, 1937, to Vernon and Flossie Herring in Iowa City, Iowa. Her father and mother along with her brother, Kenneth, and sister, Doloris, moved from Iowa to Milwaukie, Oregon in 1942. In 1947 her father bought a farm in Oregon City, where she lived for the rest of her life. Doris attended grade school at the old school house on Maple Lane in Oregon City and went on to graduate from Oregon City High School in 1956. Doris had a strong work ethic. Growing up, she worked beside her family on the farm. Summers, she picked berries for local farmers in the area. After graduation, she worked for Electronic Specialties where she soldered electronic components until she retired. She loved music, a trait her father past down. She sang and played guitar along-side her identical twin sister, Doloris, her whole life. The two played and sang on the “Stars of Tomorrow” hosted by the local DJ, Willie Nelson. They played for numerous company picnics and for private organizations. For about 10 years in the early 2000’s she, along with the Herring Family Band, played every Friday at the Oregon City Senior Center. She felt blessed to be able to bring enjoyment to others through music. Doris was loved by so many and is survived by her husband Mike Masterson, six nieces, numerous great and great-great nieces & nephews, and many others she called family. Donations can be made to the Oregon City Evangelical Church, where she was a long-time member, in lieu of flowers. Celebration of Life for Doris will be at the family farm on Saturday, September 19, 2020, at 2pm. Doris will be privately laid to rest in Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Mausoleum, 6705 SE 14th Avenue, Portland, Oregon, 97202, (503) 236-4141
