Obituary of Dean Kenneth Dibblee

DIBBLEE, Dean Kenneth September 19, 1936 - May 26, 2020 Dean Dibblee died suddenly May 26, 2020 in his home. Dean was born to Vernita and Kenneth Dibblee on September 19, 1936 in Hillsboro, Oregon. He graduated from Grant High School in 1954. During his teenage years he achieved Eagle Scout. After high school graduation, he enrolled in Oregon State University and received a bachelor's degree in Food Technology. During college he worked summers in road construction for Bureau of Roads and US Corps of Engineering as a surveyor. He enlisted in the US Air Force after college and subsequently completed active duty in the Oregon Air National Guard as a Medic. He worked as a food technologist for the Processed Products Division of the US Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1994. He married Martha Kontz on May 18, 1963. They made their home in Portland, Oregon, living in their home for 53 years. Dean loved the outdoors and when his children were growing up he took them camping and adventuring, including Disneyland and Yellowstone National Park. The family spent a wonderful vacation in Hawaii where he and Martha SCUBA-dived. He and Martha took a number of trips but his favorites were the small boat cruises to Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska and Baja Mexico. Dean and a college friend adventured in Kenya, Africa, on a wildlife safari. Dean loved his garden and tended it well. He also loved his pets and only last summer lost his Cairn Terrier, Angus Mac Duff. Surviving Dean is his wife of 57 years, Martha; daughters Christina (James) Grelle and Susan (Joshua) Blender and sons Brian (Susanne) and David (Ivonne); sisters Donna (Thomas) Jones and Doris (Park) Thede and nine grandchildren.
