Beloved wife and mother, Vera Elnor Viers passed away Friday, July 26, 2019, at the age of 86. She is survived by her four children – Billie, Bill, Virgil and Glova; three grandchildren – Ed, Don and Meghan; and four great grandchildren – Mariah, Shelby, Amelia, and Elizabeth.

Born May 6, 1933 in Almena, KS, she was the youngest of four children born to Zelia and Alfred Hines. She graduated from Ontario High School in 1951. She married Bill Viers (Joe) May 2, 1957 in Caldwell, ID. They were a loving and supportive team for 57 years until his passing in November 2014. Once her youngest child started kindergarten, she helped support her family by working as a bookkeeper. She also helped make ends meet by sewing many of her children’s clothes. Each of us have fond memories picking out our own fabric and patterns and then watching Mom sew. Each piece was made with all the love she had for each of us.

She was the glue that held our family together by quietly keeping the peace. She was a voracious reader, generous with her time, kind, and a talented artist who painted, restored wood furniture, and had a special skill in creating beautiful needlepoint pieces which she frequently made as gifts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services will be held in Nyssa, OR at a later date which will be announced to family and friends. Vera was a lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Disabled American Veterans. In lieu of flowers, her children request donations be made in her name to the Disabled American Veterans – a cause dear to both our parents.
