Obituary of Virginia Ruth Newman

In loving memory of Virginia R. Newman: born December 1, 1923, passing April 7, 2019.

Sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother; Virginia worked hard to make life easier and more comfortable for her family and her friends. Always giving what she could to help them, she also gave to charitable organizations that could help others she would never know, and who would never know her. She did all of this while never expecting nor asking for acknowledgement for what she had done. She is greatly missed by those who survive her: her daughter Janice and sons James and John; her two sisters and one brother; her twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Born in the small town of White Salmon, Washington, where she lived during her early childhood, and then went with her missionary father, mother, and the rest of her family by steamship to the island of Oahu in the American territory of Hawaii, where she spent her formative years. Virginia would later recall those years with great happiness as a time she felt she was living in paradise. She returned to White Salmon where she spent her high school years. After graduation, she married and had three sons. After divorcing, she and her three boys moved brieftly to Long Beach, Washington, and then to Portland, Oregon; in Portland, Virginia remarried, had one more child, a girl, and remaind here for the rest of her life. Now, her family is comforted in the knowledge that she is "Safe In The Arms Of Jesus."

A Celebration of Life will be held for her at the home of her granddaughter Nikki on Saturday, June 29th. Please text or call her son James to RSVP or for further details: (503) 312-6473.

Please give any remembrances to one of the following organizations: Alzheimer's Disease Research, or to the Mayo Clinic for Alzheimer's Disease Research.
