So saddened to learn of John’s passing. My parents Jim and Mary Anne Haning send their condolences to the Flatness family. Such fond memories of John and Vera, a beloved part of our extended Air Force family. We miss the squadron reunions and all our fellow pilots and their families, with all our love always, Jim and Mary Anne.
My sincere and deep condolences to the Flatness family. In 1958 I was a Lieutenant the 52nd Troop Carrier Squadron and in 1960 was Captain Flatness's co-pilot on a TDY 6-months' rotation to Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany with his crew, and learned much from him which served me so well later as an Aircraft Commander. Through the early 60's my wife and I had many happy times with Vera and John at squadron social functions, and later at the 52nd TCS reunions, and then at the more recent 63rd TCW reunions. We exchanged Christmas cards for many years ... 2018 the latest.
I just today saw John's passing in the Military Office magazine, and was greatly saddened..He was one of my heroes, being a WWII AAF pilot ... and we all owe them the highest honor.
How he missed Vera! ... and now he is with her.
Rest in peace ... we'll meet again.

It is with great sorrow that I am sending my condolences on your recent loss. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I and would like to share a scripture that has benefited me and many people in time of grief. God reassures us of something wonderful in the Bible at Acts 24:15. It says, "There is going to be a resurrection." Along with God's promise to us at Revelation 21:3, 4 of sorrow, death, and pain being done away with permanently.
It is my hope that this bit of information is of comfort to you. Please be sure to find further information regarding the resurrection at: JW.ORG
May God be with you.
