When I first met Jim in 1970, he had beautiful, long brown hair and wore a leather jacket with fringe. I thought he was pretty cool. At one point I ran away from home to be with him... he promptly called my mother and sent me back home. Once I bought my first little baggie of pot.. he took it away from me and threw it away! He taught me how to drive. He (tried) to teach me how to cook. The first egg I fried... he hung on a nail on the wall. We laughed about it for years to come.
When I became pregnant in 1972, the entire universe was afraid to tell my dad. Unbeknownst to me, Jim knocked on my door and asked my father if he could talk to him. He told him he would like to marry me and would like his blessing. Not sure if he actually got a BLESSING, but we were married in August of 1972. One time he drove for 20 miles out to the country market because I was craving a fresh peach. Anthony Scott Renfro was born in November.
Once Jim took on a huge bully that had hit his girlfriend... he ended up in the emergency room... but that's the kind of guy he was.
On Valentines Day... when Tony was just 3 months old, Jim got me a heart shaped pendant 'from Tony' that said "Love You Mom" I still have it in my jewelry box.
Our marriage did not last long... but our friendship lasted a lifetime. Each Christmas Eve he brought me a huge fruit basket. He parked his T-Bucket in my garage on many rod runs. He was always there when I needed someone to talk to.
I will miss you Jim... thanks for being you...
