Obituary of Gloria L. Wetmore

Gloria Lameta  (Weber) Wetmore passed away January 15, 2019 in Lake Oswego, Oregon. She was 93 years old. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019, at First Baptist Church, 909 SW 11^th Avenue, Portland. A private graveside service was held at Willamette National Cemetery.

Gloria was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1925 in Wing, North Dakota, to Adolph and Pauline (Mehlhoff) Weber. Her family moved to Carlton, Oregon in 1938 and later to Portland where she graduated from Girls Polytechnic High in 1944. Following graduation she worked in the accounting department at Metropolitan Life in downtown Portland.

Bill and Gloria met on a blind date and were married on June 25, 1949 at First Baptist Church. Gloria was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker and loved tending to her home and garden. She painted many wonderful ceramic pieces and enjoyed other arts and crafts throughout her life. Her Christian faith was central to her life and she loved studying the Bible and praying for others. A member of First Baptist Church for 69 years, Gloria and Bill enjoyed many lasting friendships formed there, several from the Christian Homemakers class. Gloria was a longtime leader in children’s ministries, including Cradle Roll Director and Kindergarten Superintendent.

Gloria is survived by her husband of 69 years, William E., sons, David (Nancy), Jim, Ron (Lori) and daughter Nancy (Brad) Moore, nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Sisters Luella Fossati and Bernice Lindstrom preceded her in death. Brother Gerald died in infancy.

Gentle, kind and thoughtful are perfect words to describe Gloria. She was dearly loved and will be missed by many. The family appreciates your kindness and prayers during this time.
