Obituary of David Warren Frink

David Warren Frink was born to Arthur Hatch Frink and Clara Agatha (Tourville) Frink on September 9, 1914. He was the youngest of a family of three boys and one girl.  He passed away on November 1, 2018.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Andrew and his sister, Margaret.

A lifelong resident of Vancouver, he married his high school sweetheart, Helen Thompson, in 1939.  She died in 2002.  They were married for over 64 years.  Although they had no children, David was everybody’s favorite uncle, always with a quick response filled with love and humor.

He served in the U.S. Navy from July 1943 until February 1946.  He was among the first troops to land in occupied Japan in 1945, and had first hand observation of the devastation at Nagasaki.  At 104, he was one of the oldest WWII veterans in Clark County.

In 1942, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Vancouver.  His 30-year career there was interrupted only by his military service.  He retired in 1972 as the Assistant Supervisor of mails.

Retirement was good to him.  He was an avid reader and a familiar face at the Vancouver public library.  He loved gardening and was the family’s source for garden fresh vegetables.  His health was good so he took up golf and played three to four times a week.  Five years ago, his health turned on him and he moved to The Ashley Inn, a senior care facility where they provided excellent care and where he lived for the remainder of his life.

At his request, there will be no service.  Remembrances may be given in his name to Fort Vancouver Regional Library.
