Dad was the BEST! even in the end when I was helping mom...when I tried to give him some water..his thing he would always say to me when I would get on his "nerves" he would say "gee whiz Jodie"...even up to the end...he would tell me this! :)> his last words to me was when I had to leave to go back to Alabama was "have a good trip". love you DAD...you will be missed but never forgotten.

My brothers and I have been extremely blessed to have our grandparents reach the longevity that they have. I’m grateful to have had the years we had with Grandpa. As Dad mentioned, we’ll most remember Grandpa’s catchphrases of “I’ll give you a lickin’!” when the grandkids were bad (said lovingly of course), “Get outta my chair!” with a smiling scowl and THE THUMB, and my personal favorite I use all the time: “Gee whiz...” His claw-like grip on your leg to get you out of his chair made the grandkids think he was the strongest man in the world! Thanks for everything Grandpa.

Dad was always fun - we enjoyed many things over the years. Trips to the Oregon Coast, to Minnesota (mostly via car - but also on the Northern Pacific Empire Builder in my youth) where we would fish for northern pike, golfing there and at Rivergreens in Gladstone, and attending Blazer and other sporting events, He sang with the family in the Immnauel Lutheran choir, was active in the church and had many friends there. He supported all us kids in our sports, choir and band at Rex Putnam High. We always enjoyed family time at the family home in Oak Grove - various holidays, birthdays, sports on TV and more - and if you sat in his chair - he would give us the thumb and say “out of my chair!” and we would all laugh. Dad was always quiet and soft spoken, but we always knew he loved us, as we did him. We will miss him.
