Obituary of C. Clyde Ashe

To know Clyde was to feel known; to feel drenched in his love. His tenderness, spirit and love for the Lord defined his strength. While his business career was notable, our fondest memories were not his accomplishments, but the way he lived his life with unsurpassed joy. He embraced family, friends and co-workers with care and time. His kindness and way to inspire people is his greatest legacy. Clyde left this world holding on to the hands of his children in the morning hours of Jan. 16, 2012. He was born in Harlem, Mont., May 1, 1934, to Edward Ashe and Sarah Barton Taylor. He was one of six children; Frank Ashe, James Ashe, Edward Ashe, Grace Steele and Jean May, who all preceded him in death. Clyde served in the U.S. Navy in the Persian Gulf during the Korean War and later in Vietnam. He married Armeda Brim Nov. 24, 1952, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2002. Armeda passed away in 2003. They were the proud parents of Michael Ashe and Linda Atwood. They also had twin daughters who preceded him in death in 1960. Clyde spent his career in the commercial banking field and was a vice-president with Wells Fargo Bank, directing systems and programming development, for 28 years until he retired. Realizing he was not quite ready for retirement, he joined Poorman-Douglas as vice-president and manager of systems and programming, retiring again in 2004. Clyde also worked for Bank of America, American Data, Security Pacific and First National Bank. Clyde founded a Toastmaster group (DataMasters) and served as president for two years. He was also active in Christian Business Men's Committee and served as chairman. He then taught night classes at PCC for several years including three courses he developed. He was a longtime member of Evergreen Christian Center. Clyde was an avid gemologist, especially fond of sapphires and loved to crab in Tillamook Bay. In 2005 he married Iris Chapman and she brought joy back into his life. They enjoyed many trips, especially their trip to Australia. He was an admired and treasured part of her children's lives: Brian and Rodney Hildebrand and Amber Robinson. Clyde was the proud grandpa to Ben Ashe, Lindsey Williamson, Rachelle Krieger, Matt Atwood and Marissa Torczon. He was a very proud great-grandpa to Lillian and Stephen Torczon; Shelby, Ethan and Colton Krieger; Madeleine and Carson Ashe; and Wyatt and Oliver Williamson. Clyde loved spending time at his home in Manzanita. His favorite phrase was: "There's no such thing as a bad day at the beach". We will miss you terribly, but your light will always, always shine on us. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at the Donelson-Fir Lawn Funeral Chapel, 1070 W. Main St., Hillsboro. Committal services with military honors will follow the service at Fir Lawn Cemetery.
