Obituary of Sylvia Maria Garza

Sylvia Maria Garza was born on September 9, 1955 in Castro County, Texas. She was born to Daniel and Juanita R. Dominguez. She came to Oregon in 1966, at the age of 10 as a migrant worker with her parents, siblings, and uncle and aunt. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1974. Thereafter, she also studied to be a flight attendant in Oakland, Ca. Sylvia married her long time friend, Daniel R. Garza in November, 1987. She gave birth to her first child, Danielle "Daniela" Marie Garza in August of 1988, her second child, Alfredo "Freddy" Daniel Garza in May, 1992. During her adult life Sylvia was a very dedicated worker. She began her working life first as a waitress at the first Mexican restaurant in Hillsboro, Maria's Café. After high school graduation and flight attendant school, Sylvia pursued 17 years at Portland General Electric, and most recently 15 years at Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center. She as was the proud owner of Basco's Burgers in Cornelius, Oregon. Finally, Sylvia also took care of her elderly Mother, Juanita for approximately 10 years until she Sylvia was diagnosed with Cancer. Sylvia was always full of life. She liked to garden, exercise, eat healthy, read Danielle Steel books, attend Church and loved Texas. She was firm believer in working hard and enjoying life. She loved spending quality time with her nieces and nephews. She was a Godmother to many and she took this role seriously. Her nieces and nephews remember Tia Sylvia by her warm and welcoming smile, and her "great" hugs. She always had something creative to do with the children at her home like making and decorating Christmas cookies, and loved opening her home to celebrate holidays and events. She enjoyed spending quality time with her husband, Daniel, and children Danielle and Alfredo. She liked going to the beach and camping. She particularly like going to the Snake River in Eastern Oregon. She liked to go to the Casinos. She also enjoyed dancing and listening to Tejano music and travelling to Texas with her family. Sylvia was loved by her in-laws, the Garza's, as a Sister. She was highly respected for her points of view, and her caring words. Her mother-in-law, Margarita Garza, loved Sylvia because she said she was kind, hardworking, humble, a churchgoer, loving and patient. She was the best sister-in-law and daughter-in-law anyone could ever have! During the last two years of her life, as she was fighting the strong battle with cancer, four of her closest friends never left her side. These ladies, all professional and true friends of Sylvia, never let her down. They brought her warm soups, gave medical care, and showered Sylvia with many gifts. These ladies are a true reflection of who Sylvia was. Survivors include her husband Daniel R. Garza, two children: Danielle Marie and Alfredo Daniel. Sisters: Maria Lydia Buehner, Maria Yolanda Lozano, Gracie Garcia. Brothers: Daniel Dominguez and Ricardo Dominguez, as well as many nephews, nieces, and great nephews and great nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Juanita Dominguez; brother, Ramiro Dominguez; sister, Lisa Jane Dominguez. Service Information
