Obituary of David L. Bryan

After just eight short months since his diagnosis, Dave lost his valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alice; two children and their spouses, Barbara and Jim Wakefield and Michael and Karen Bryan; six grandchildren; Jamie, Daniel, Timothy, and Benjamin Wakefield; Elizabeth and Matthew Bryan; a sister, Paula Hays. He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Bryan; mother, Evelyn Bryan; brother, Ronald Bryan. Dave was born in Los Angeles, CA and moved with his family to Oregon, graduating from Estacada High School and attended Pacific University before enlisting in the Army in 1956. Following discharge, he enrolled in night classes at Portland State University, graduating in 1972 with a BS degree in Business. Dave was a farm boy at heart with a love for John Deere tractors. He did custom haying and logging before joining Portland General Electric in 1960 at their hydro plants. In 1962 he transferred to their downtown office working on computerizing their systems. At the time of his retirement in 1991, he was Supervisor of Internal Audit. Dave served 27 years on the Supervisory Committee of Electra Credit Union, 20 years on the Board of Directors for the PGE Retirees Association, and was active in the Frank Shrives Electric Museum. He was an avid runner, including marathons and his favorite run, the Hood to Coast. He enjoyed backpacking, hikes and travels which took him to all 50 states as well as Europe. Dave helped locate members of his Army group, organized reunions, and edited a newsletter for his former battery. Dave was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by more people than he could possibly have fathomed. A service will be held on March 13, 2012 at 11:30 AM at Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes, followed by a service at Willamette National Cemetery with full military honors at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, kindly send donations to Cross Road Medical Center in Glennallen, Alaska, where Dave first received treatment. Please visit their website at www.crossroadmc.org.
