ELEANOR A. (DANIELSON) WESTLING Eleanor was born to Eric and Ora Danielson on October 22, 1929 in Portland and was raised and lived in Milwaukie, Oregon. She was active in drama, sports and music throughout her school days. She was part of a group of high school girls who climbed Mt. St. Helens long before it erupted. Eleanor graduated from Milwaukie High School. She received a Bachelor's degree in biology from Reed College. She later obtained a Master's degree in Education from Oregon State University. She taught High School biology in St. Helens, Oregon, and at Milwaukie High School for several years. Eleanor was highly involved in church throughout her life. She met her husband, Norman E. Westling, at Sellwood Baptist Church, and they married there on June 28, 1952. They later became charter members at Milwaukie Baptist Church (now called Grace Pointe.) Eleanor had many interests. She loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and held many different jobs at church throughout her life. She enjoyed sharing her interest in plants, and was a member of Orchid Society. After surviving cancer, she became a Reach to Recovery volunteer for many years, visiting at least 150 women. She is survived by her faithful husband of 60 years, Norman E. Westling; her daughters, Joan (Mrs. Rick Mathews) and Linda (Mrs. Darrel Gilbert); her son, Doug; three granddaughters, 1 grandson, and 2 great granddaughters. The past year has been full of complications of cancer and osteoporosis. She died of complications from pneumonia on June 30, 2012. She was deeply loved by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM on July 25th at Grace Pointe Church, 10750 SE 42nd Ave., Milwaukie, Oregon 97222.
