Obituary of Rick Alan Raney

Rick Raney born July 3, 1957 lost his battle with cancer on November 2, 2012. Before his illness Rick lived life to the fullest. He was an active member of the Elks basketball team and worked out regularly. On the weekends he could be found working around the house, going out on a date with his wife of 35 years or chasing after one of his five grandchildren. He was born in Portland and graduated from Gladstone High School where he was captain of the basketball team. Towering at 6 feet 4 inches he had an intimidating stature but everyone who knew him knew him to be the gentlest, kindest man they had ever met. Rick worked as a communications technician for Portland General Electric for over 30 years. While working full time he took night classes for two straight years to get that job. With two children at home it was a sacrifice that he did to better provide for his family. Working there he met many lifelong friends. Rick is survived by his wife Kathy; two daughters Kelli and Katie; five grandchildren, Kayla, Kelsey, Kyle, Kiptyn, and Ava; and his 2 sisters Sue and Shelley. The celebration of his life will be held on November 9th at 1PM at the Little Chapel of the Chimes, 11667 SE Stevens Rd., Happy Valley, OR 97086.
