Michael Herr

Obituary of Michael E. Herr

Herr, Michael Ernest 72, July 4, 1941 to Nov. 9, 2013. Mike was born in Wallace, Idaho to parents Dr. Marion E. Herr and Ernestine Bohrer. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn M. Herr, daughter Debbie Herr Lassell, and brother Curt Herr. Mike grew up in Yakima Washington, graduated from Dwight Eisenhower High School and Central Washington State University in Ellensburg, Washington. Mike displayed a fun loving jovial attitude while enjoying time with friends. His Karaoke rendition of “Mac the Knife” always drew raves. As a World Record holder, Mike ate 258 butter clams in 10 minutes at the 1963 World’s fair. Crowds roared with excitement as he implored them to “clam down”. While traveling, Mike loved to explore local hangouts and share small talk with Ticos in Costa Rica. Near sand and surf, Mike could be found tipping cool cervezas under tropical palms on the Mexican Baja. As a classic car lover, his 56 T-Bird remained near and dear to his heart. Wife Kay and Daughter Debbie, along with several close friends celebrated Mike’s living memorial and 50th wedding anniversary at the Legacy Hopewell Hospice House. He passed away Saturday, November 9th with his family by his side after an extended illness. A celebration of Michael’s life has already been held, but if you wish to leave a condolence for Kay you may do so at www.WilhelmPortlandMemorial.com.
