Obituary of Alfred Mark Mick
Alfred M. Mick, M.D.
May 25, 1942 – January 18, 2014
Alfred M. Mick was youngest of nine children born to Theodore and Leah Mick at the family farm house in Osborne, Kansas. At six years of age, he moved with his family to Boise, Idaho in 1948. After attending Catholic primary schools in Boise, he spent his freshman year of high school at Mt. Angel, Oregon. He said many times that this is where he learned the discipline needed to attend medical school. Following his year at Mt. Angel, he returned to Boise and graduated from St. Theresa Academy.
He earned his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska in 1967. Following his internship, he spent two years as a physician in the in the United States Navy. After the Navy, he moved to Milwaukie, Oregon. In 1970, he joined Dr. James Donkle at a small clinic located near Providence Milwaukie Hospital. What started as a two-man clinic eventually evolved into Northwest Primary Care.
Al is survived by his wife (Carol), two children and three step-children—Julie (Majo) Ahrens, Erin Mick, Aaron (Kelli) Shurtliff, Erika Shurtliff, and Tiffaney Shurtliff, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters—Ernestine Mick of Beloit, KS, Marianne (Blaine) Wallace of Phoenix, AZ, and Martha (Ron) Sullivan of Centennial, CO. He is preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Al will be most remembered for his hard work, love of life, and love of family
