Obituary of Harry M. Hanna

Harry M. Hanna passed away Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 25th, 2021, surrounded by family. He was born in Portland, OR in 1936 to Joseph and Amelia Hanna(Rask). Harry attended Central Catholic High School, the University of Portland, during which time he enlisted in the Oregon National Guard, University of Oregon, and then to Northwestern School of Law. He worked for the Port of Portland during law school and became the Manager of Portland International Airport. Deciding to pursue a career in law, he was admitted to the Oregon State Bar and the Oregon Supreme court in 1966, the US Supreme Court in 1971, and continued to practice In Portland for over 55 years specializing in Real Estate and Estate planning. During that time, he served as a Protem judge and taught law at Lewis and Clark. He was with the law firm of Sussman Shank LLP. until the time of his passing, where he enjoyed the wonderful attorneys and staff. He met the love of his life, Patsy(Shelly), during his teenage years working at his dad’s grocery store in SE Portland; they married in 1967 and were at each other side every minute since. They welcomed the birth of their son Harry Hanna Jr. in 1975. In September 2000, he welcomed the addition of his daughter in law, Julie, and then would come more joy in his life with the births of 4 grandchildren, and a new nickname was born, ‘Pa’. Family was always the center of life for Harry. He loved going to his grandkids' events and never missed a chance to be with them at everything they did. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, trips to Hawaii, Giants baseball games, playing tennis, and Patsy’s cooking. He cherished time with his wife, son and daughter, and grandchildren. A member of numerous organizations and boards over the years, including Emanuel hospital, East Portland Rotary club, Life Flight Development Committee, and Central Catholic High School. Harry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patsy, son Harry Jr. (Julie), grandchildren Harry III, Rachelle, Michael, and Luke. Brothers Don(Florence) and Joe(Judy) Hanna, brother-in-law Ron Wilkinson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and Godchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe, and mother Amelia, and sister Marlene. There will be a Catholic Rosary, funeral mass, and celebration of life on Tuesday, December 7th at 12:30 P.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (3910 SE 11th Ave. Portland).
