Obituary of Eva Ruth Hunter

It is with heavy hearts that her family announces the death of Eva Ruth Hunter (nee Minick) at the age of 89. She was known by her middle name, Ruth. Ruth passed away Monday, August 16th, 2021, in residential care at Hearthstone. She spent most of her adult life in Happy Valley, Oregon. Eva Ruth Minick was born in 1931 to David Albert Minick (1900-1988) and Della C. Minick (1903-1933) in Oakridge, Oregon. Her father remarried to Mildred (Davison) Minick and the two shared a bond that comforted Ruth but she never forgot the loss of her mother at such a young age. During her life she was a registered nurse who was conscious of and attentive to the suffering of her patients and received letters of thanks from the families for the quality of care she provided. Ruth was a devout Seventh Day Adventist and attended the Pleasant Valley Church in Happy Valley, Oregon for many years and remained part of their community when she relocated. Ruth and her husband Don enjoyed travelling to beautiful places, photographing and collecting postcards of those travels. One highlight was Yukon, Alaska where they took many pictures. They enjoyed activities of faith together which included bible studies and listening to gospel music. They shared their love through poetry and their adoration of their cherished dog Gracie. Ruth enjoyed several hobbies independently such as scrapbooking and playing the organ. Ruth and Don were both generous, and Ruth left most of her estate monies and worldly possessions to the Seventh Day Adventist Church to put to the use of God and his works. They also contributed to local tribes for education. Ruth anticipated a joyous heavenly reunion with those who preceded her in death, including her husband Donald R Hunter (1936 -2016), and sisters and brothers Kenneth Minick (1939-2014), Carrie Lois Tarter (1928 - 1996), Edith Joy (Norris) Stewart (1942-2018), and Donna Earline Moffitt (1937-1996) as well as friends and family she lost along the way. She is survived by her brother, Richard Minick of Seale, Alabama; her beloved dog Gracie, and numerous nieces and nephews, and several grand nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her gentle loving spirit, boundless patience, quiet but quick sense of humor and devotion to all she loved. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 5th, 2021 at 2:00 pm. It will be held at the Scoggins Valley Church of Gaston, Oregon.
